Iphone Xr not receiving SMS messages

I am not receiving SMS messages from android phones until days later, sometimes not at all. I have tried resetting network settings, resetting device settings, etc. I have my phone through Verizon, I went through their whole list of things to try with no resolve. The only thing I can think of is that my phone number is grayed out under "you can receive messages to and reply from." Any help would be greatly appreciated.
