Install El Capitan

I have an early 2009 iMac running Yosemite 10.10.5. I need El Capitan, which is the highest version that will run on this iMac. I cannot find El Capitan by searching the App Store. When searching Google, I get this link on an Apple page:

http://updates-http.cdn-apple.com/2019/cert/061-41424-20191024-218af9ec-cf50-4516-9011-228c78eda3d2/InstallMacOSX.dmg

However, when I download and run this installer, everything appears to work - but, I still show Yosemite in About this Mac after the install is complete and I have rebooted. I also found a link on another page that did get the App Store to show me an El Capitan installer. I had the same result with that installer.

I really need El Capitan for a piece of software that I need to run. Now what?

Thaks, Paul

How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

The latter lists the download path that you tried.

If you’ve followed the directions in the former, and have followed the sequence (also) described in the latter (including then running the Install OS X El Capitan.app installer that then gets created over in the Applications folder), and if that’s all not working, contact Apple Support.
