I am not getting any sound when turn on Dolby Atmos on the Apple TV 4k 64GB. When I turn Atmos off, the sound track reappears. The Apple TV is connected directly to the Yamaha RX A2040 using a new high speed HDMI cable. I am using a 7.1.4 speaker set up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Everything streams through as PCM.
That may be as intended, and that can still be Dolby Atmos. Apple TV will decode the incoming Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus audio signal into PCM Multichannel with Atmos (Dolby Atmos in Dolby MAT). There is no passthrough option.

Are you certain the movie or tv show supports Dolby Atmos?
Is it possible your network does not have the bandwidth to support Dolby Atmos?
It does, I checked and tried several different movies with Atmos soundtracks.

Ok, when I have the apple tv Dolby atmos on I don't get any sound at all when trying to play Dobly atomos movies from Apple tv.
I have exactly the same issue. You have to turn ATMOS off on the Apple TV to get sound
I have tried swapping cables and it still does not work. Very frustrating.
This is the same problem I have with an RX-A2040 and ATV 4k. I cannot get Atmos content to play at all from Apple TV. I can play bluray discs with Atmos fine.
