Moving to a new Apple ID from an existing one shared by 3 phones

Hi,

My partner has 3 iPhones, work, personal - as well as her daughter's phone, all connected to one Apple ID.

We want to move her personal phone to a new Apple ID. But after reading the support page on 'Changing you Apple ID' I was worried that it wasn't aiming at the same thing. Because it suggests signing out on all devices. When (I'm presuming) the 2 phones we want to stay on the same existing Apple ID should just remain as they are.

So to be clear about what we're looking for:

  • Move 1 of 3 phones sharing an ID to a new ID, leaving the other 2 unchanged.
  • Keep the photos, contacts, notes and calendar which are currently on the phone and then have them associated with the new Apple ID

Some other questions I imagine we'll need to know too:

  • How will the paid apps behave when they don't belong to the new ID?
  • What happens generally to apps' data on the phone, will it be lost with the connection to a new ID or will the current data on the phone be available to be synced with the new ID in iCloud ?
  • Any other potential pitfalls..?

Thanks for any advice,

iPhone 8

If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer.

See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. Also set up Family Sharing to keep access to your apps/purchases.

All of your contacts, apps, payments etc etc are associated to that specific Apple ID.

if you want a new ID on a phone you firstly sign out of your Apple ID on that device. It will then ask if you want to keep your contacts and some other things downloaded onto the phone (id say yes)

then create a new Apple ID.

you will lose access to any paid applications, documents stored in cloud etc as they are associated to the original Apple ID.

you should be able to use the free apps without downloading them again however any settings synced with iCloud you will lose.
