How to stop or delete the impending upgrade to OS Catalina?

I haven't upgraded to the new Catalina OS but it is downloaded and I keep getting a prompt when my Macbook Pro can upgrade to it. From what I read, there's a lot of 32-bit programs that aren't working and more compatibility issues with third party apps.

My question is: Is there a way to delete or remove the downloaded OS update? I don't want to restart my laptop and inadvertently upgrade, I'm also getting tired of the prompt to restart. I've disabled the auto-update since then. Is there a place in my computer that has the downloaded OS that I can delete directly from?

I looked in the applications folder and didn't see "Install macOS Catalina". I went into System Preferences > Software Update and it says macOS Catalina Upgrade Now. Does that mean it hasn't downloaded the new OS yet?

Yes. You need to physically press that button to

start the upgrade process. It won't start on its own.

If the Catalina installer was downloaded to your mac it is in the Applications folder and is called Install macOS Catalina. Drag it to the trash and empty it.
