Deleting complete sections in iMovie?

I did a 2 camera shoot with separate audio from garage band. After everything is synced in iMovie, how do I delete a section of all 3 medias together so the sync remains in tact? Thanks

I think that the easiest way would be to share out your project to a movie on your desktop and then import the shared out movie into a newly created iMovie project. It will come in as one long clip. Then you can do a Modify/Split clip at the in point and out point and delete the segment thus created. Everything will remain in sync.

So is there no way to select a region of the project across both video files and the audio file and delete it that way? Seems like it should be possible. If I understand what you are suggesting, (and I am admittedly "technology challenged"), once I bring it back in from the desktop I will no longer have any individual control over the separate video or audio files? Won't be able to adjust pic in pic or other features like that between the video clips? Thank for your time.

You would have limited editing capabilities with bringing in the shared movie from the desktop. You could still split it up, delete segments, add titles, add effects and so on, but you couldn't make adjustments to edits that have been embedded into the movie. So, you would need to make all of your edits and adjustments before doing the shared out process.

You could, instead, accomplish the job by working within the existing project. It just gets a little tricky with three layers of media.

Try putting your cursor on the audio clip and, while pressing down, drag it downward into a lower video will so that the handle that attaches it to the video above it is pulled free. That will make the audio independent of the video. Then select the audio clip and do a Mark/Add Marker where you later will make the in and out points of your splits.

Next, select the two layers of video at the same time, so they are both selected and do a Modify/Split Clip at the in and out points of the two video layers. They will both simultaneously split at the same point. Then delete the split-off segments. Return to your audio clip and do a Modify/Split Clip at each of the two markers that you placed earlier. Then delete the split off segment of the audio clip. That should leave everything synced.

Thanks so much Rich. I think the first, simpler solution may work for this current project as there is only a small section of pic in pic but I will digest and play with your other option for future projects. That answer would clearly have been above my pay grade. One other question, I could have sworn that I was able in past videos to post a pic of a book in the pic in pic window and have the orientation be picture. It seems now to default to landscape and cut off part of the top and bottom of the musical text. When I search help it gives me several parameters to change but I do not see an orientation edit? Any advice there? Am I just missing something simple. Thanks again for all your time and expertise.
