"Disk Not Ejected Properly" message

Following disconnection of all our equipment for house decorating, we get the above message, with the instruction "Eject "Time Machine" before disconnecting or turning it off.

This recurs every time the computer is used, building up all down the right hand side of the screen. How can I stop it? Everything was switched off and / or ejected before the decorating. Time Machine is working as usual.

Im sorry I posted this first in "High Sierra" but our OS is Mojave.

Thank you for any help!

Your clue to disconnect a device from the Mac is after you select the respective "Eject "_____", and the device's associated Desktop icon has vanished. Too impatient, and you will get those improper ejection warnings.

Depending on whether device write activity was present when the device was physically disconnected may be a contributing factor in potential drive corruption, and may necessitate Disk Utility First Aid on that external drive once remounted.
