A couple of things to check. Make sure nothing is plugged into the Mac's headphone jack. Check that "Mute" is not active. Check that the volume is turned up. If you use a USB DAC you might have to System Preferences/ Sound to switch to the internal speakers. If you use a USB DAC you might also check your Audio MIDI Setup settings.
