I exported a 10 minute movie using Apples Devices 1080p, but wanted a smaller file for sharing, so I then made one using Apple Devices 720p. To my surprise, the 720p file is larger than the 1080p. How can that be?
When I output, the settings appear to be identical, but I just noticed that one is .mp4 and one is .m4v. That must be it, but in the export settings, I can't see how to make the 720p .m4v. How do you do that?
In Destination preferences right-click and reset the default settings. I really don't see how you can get get .mp4 from Apple Devices as the format isn;'t accepted.
You use the Apple devices 720p preset.

You used a different export format that uses a higher data rate. The 720 d an Apple Devices export.
That's exactly what I am using and it's giving me the big file.

Yes, that's exactly the export I am using. Are you getting m4v when you use that?
Yes. Always. You get .mp4 if you use master file. Perhaps you need to rest your destination preferences.
Okay, so that explains it if it's actually wrong. Thank you. Does this mean I have to delete the preferences fully, or can I reset my destination prefs on their own? How?
