My daughter and I recently purchased new phones and she created her own apple id. Now she is unable to make purchases b/c it shows she's not connected to itunes. We attempted to sync her phone with my itunes but it didn't work.

Do you mean she's getting a 'cannot connect' message : If you can't connect to the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books - Apple Support ?
