downloading iMovie

The app store says I'm not up to date. So I checked my settings and my OS is 10.11 can i update it to 10.12 so i can download iMovie? My computer says I don't have any updates. Not sure what i should do. (btw I'm on a early 2015 macbook air. Also I'm new to mac)

You should be able to upgrade to current Mojave. See this link:
