The best thing to do would be to turn it over to the police. Then if it's not claimed after a while they should return it to you.
Wouldn't that be pointless as I have already contacted the owner? I have pictures for proof if I necessary
OK, you didn't say you have proof it wasn't stolen. Did he also give you the PIN code and his Apple ID and password?
Pretty sure if I told you how I got it, you'd probably end up thinking It was stolen.
Then don't tell me.
