After you request a refund you'll receive a status update by email within 48 hours. Since the article specifically says "statement", which for me is the thing that arrives monthly in my mailbox, I wonder if you check your daily card transactions if you might see it earlier?

For apps and media you can also sign into https://reportaproblem.apple.com to check if the status of your item is "Refunded".

I assume you mean that you used Apple Pay to make a purchase, requested a refund, but still don't see the money in your account despite it showing the refund somewhere. Apple Pay itself is just the technology that allows you to easily pay with your debit or credit cards that are stored in your digital Wallet. The refund itself is processed by the merchant and how long it takes for that money to reflect in your account depends on your bank. The best person to answer this is typically the bank.

In short, there's no "one answer", it depends on a variety of factors, all of which are not controlled by Apple.
