itunes movie playback curser control issues

itunes movie playback shows dots and dashes for curser controls on bottom of movie screen ie:fwrd pause reverse, etc

Just installed latest itunes on new Lenovo laptop

Copied over existing Library to Itunes folder and "music " works fine. When I play movies the movies play but cannot see the forward , reverse, pause curser controls. They function, using mouse but just show up as dot and dashes . movies plaving from netflix and hulu work fine. If I down load apple tv the movies play fine, But I dont wanna pay a $12.99 monthly fee.

Can you provide some guidance?
