Stop iCloud pulling in Google Photos

New to Apple (iPhone 17, 26.2).

I previously used an Android device so all my photos are in Google Photos and backed up there. I downloaded the Google Photos app to my iPhone as I still want to access them on my current device.

From now on I want new photos to be in the Apple Photos app and saved in iCloud. But when I turn iCloud on it pulls in all the photos from Google Photos which I don’t want it to do.

I have Google Photos backup turned off now and have not allowed Google Photos to access Photos. Can’t find any other settings or permissions to adjust.

Please help!
