Mac Studio Ethernet Issues

I use Pro Tools and have a C24 Control Surface. It uses an Ethernet connection to a router, which is connected to my Mac Studio. Recently, the Ethernet connection on the Mac Studio stopped working. I now rely on WiFi. This issue has made my C24 unusable. Any ideas?

I would not expect that to work unless the C24 supports Gigabit Ethernet speeds or better.

The 10 Gigabit Ethernet port on the Mac Studio can run at 1, 2.5, 5, or 10 gigabits per second. But unlike some other Etherent implementations, it does not support 10 megabit per second or 100 Megabit per second ("Fast Ethernet") speeds.

If your C24 has a Fast Ethernet port and you plug it directly into the Mac Studio, the two won't have anything in common.

Servant of Cats has that part about Mac Studio not supporting older Ethernet speeds AT ALL correct. Older Ethernet uses baseband signaling, with one bit per signaling interval.

Gigabit speeds and higher use a modulated signal with multiple bits per signaling interval, and uses all four pairs of wires to get more spectrum. EVERY cable MUST have all four pairs of wires present and Terminated correctly. This is one (but not the only) way to wire them:

I can’t easily find the tech specs for the Acid C|24, as the Avid site is returning 502 gateway errors.

I did locate the manual, and it both lacks any reference to Ethernet speed, and does mention the need for using a cross-over cable for some configurations. Which in aggregate usually means it’s not gigabit, and won’t (directly) work here. (Gigabit connections will usually automatically manage the use of direct and cross-over patch cables.)

This Avid box and the Mac will probably work when connected via a switch capable of 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps (gigabit) Ethernet speeds, however. This if the router is somehow getting tangled, or if there are multiple routers or multiple subnets here.

Some more general networking questions:

How many IP network routers are installed here?

Have you restarted the router?

Checked the Avid C|24 firmware?

All of the patch cables here should be Cat 5E, Cat 6, or Cat 6A.

Avid C|24 is originally from 2011 and apparently went unsupported in 2022, as well.
