Lost AirPods Pro 2 One Earbud

I lost one (left) earbud of my AirPods Pro 2 (USB C) at school. I went back to the place where I lost it, but the AirPod was gone. When I searched at online I found that it is possible to locate even a single earbud using the Find my feature. However when I checked through icloud, there was no information about the lost earbud. Is it possible for someone else to pick up my earbud and pair it with their own airpods case? If it is reset while still paired, does that mean I will not be able to see it on my phone and will never be able to find it again? I activated lost mode does that send any kind of notification to the person who picked it up, giving me a chance to get it back?
