Mail app does not send to wife's gmail account.

Sound like a gmail issue and not Apple mail, she can report the issue to gmail support or look at their help site/forum.

Do you have each other in you Contacts on each others devices you are using.

Also check your Mailbox Behaviours in Mail on both devices as well as check that there are no Rules interfering with email delivery

My guess is that you have her email address incorrect when sending from your Mail app. You do not get an error message because the email address is valid so it is being sent without error to the incorrectly spelled email address.
