Make sure the person you sent it to has an Apple Account in the same region as you. The example in the support article above is:
If you gifted the song using the method in the provided link, then yes they will need an Apple Account. The only thing the recipient will receive is a redemption code and Redeem button where they will need to use their Apple Account to download the song to their device. The song is not actually sent to them, just the ability to download it for free from the iTunes Store, and they will need an Apple Account in order to do that. They don't need an Apple device in order to download from iTunes, just the Apple Account.
I just want to send a song, not software. That should not require an Apple account.
Am I missing something?
I am an Apple user with an account. I paid. I want the music to go to someone who may or may not have an Apple device.
