Search in Mail - how to control the order of results?

I'm using Apple Mail on my 2019 Intel iMac, running MacOS Sequoia 15.7.2. Mostly Mail works as usual, but if I search for say a particular sender, the results are shown in what looks like random order. I would like to see them in reverse date order, with the most recent mail at the top of the list. Is there any way to do this? If not, the search seems far less useful than it might be.

When I do that search, the search results come up with a column for "Date Received." If I click at the topmost part of that column, it sorts them by increasing or decreasing date order (oldest first, or newest first). If you don't see a "Date Received" column, you can configure Mail to include it in your display.

I only see one column, which shows each email, with the date at the right hand end of the top line. I must have missed something. How can I see that 'Date Received) column? I must have done something stupid. This is Mail version 16 by the way - the latest offered with Sequoia, I think. Here's a redacted version of the top part of the column I see (trendy!):
