No connection between Macbook air 2017 and a TV

Need help to connect my Macbook air 2017 to a Toshiba Regza TV. Everything looks OK until I switch on the TV, a "No video signal" comes up and there is no connection. I connected through a minidisplay port to a HDMI port on the TV. Have also tried with another computer and there is nothing wrong with the cable.

Before I used a Macbook air 2013 and it worked fine. Any suggestions?

A 2017 MacBook Air connects to a TV using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter or cable, not USB-C. Troubleshoot by verifying the adapter, switching TV HDMI inputs, restarting devices, and ensuring the correct input source is selected.

Key Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Input Selection: Use the TV remote to verify you have selected the correct HDMI input port (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2).

  • Restart Devices: Reboot both the MacBook and the TV to reset the connection.

  • Adjust Settings: Go to System Settings > Displays on the Mac to check if the TV is detected and adjust resolution.

  • Audio Output: If the video works but audio does not, go to System Settings > Sound and ensure the TV is selected as the output device.

  • AirPlay: If available on your TV, try connecting via AirPlay by ensuring both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Common Issues:

  • Incorrect Adapter: USB-C to HDMI adapters will not work directly with a 2017 model.

  • Faulty Port: Test with a different HDMI cable or port on the TV.

I hope that helps.
