What is the Best way to save footage from multiple external hard drives on to one SSD or external hard drive in chronological order?
Hello Everyone. Hope You All are Well. I’m a travel vlogger, and have a lot of footage on different external hard drives. This is not directly for FCP, but it may make a difference for ease of editing.
I’m thinking of possibly putting my videos on to one SSD or external hard drive instead of having the clutter of working with multiple external hard drives. For each video I will put on YouTube, the footage will most probably be on one of the old external hard drives, and the final export will be on a different external hard drive.
A lot of the footage is organized in folders, while some is just mixed without proper organization. The other issue is that some have same names (in case of iPhone videos), as the names repeat after deleting videos. The camera footage has the Date in the title (for the most part), but the iPhone footage does not. In terms of organization, Finder does not show Date of filming, but the Date the video was saved on the external hard drive. The goal would be to take the 6-7 external hard drives, save the footage on to one SSD or external hard drive, and then remove duplicates of possible (some footage is saved on more than one external hard drive).
I do not want to use software for this, and want to do it manually. I cannot just go to finder and search by QuickTime Movie to copy/Paste, as the organization folders do not get copied over. What is the best approach for all this, and is this even worth it? The footage is from 2014 onwards. Is there any video to help with this? I will be editing on FCP. Thank You.
