"iPhone 17 randomly disconnects from Tesla Bluetooth, causing connectivity issues: Tesla requires Bluetooth to unlock and run the car. My wife’s iPhone 16 has no issues but my 17 randomly disconnects the car from Bluetooth. Sometimes my 17 will unlock the car, but not allow it to run and yesterday it wouldn’t unlock or allow it to run at all and I had to use the backup card key. Tesla service says this is a unique issue on the iPhone 17. Any other Tesla owners having the same problem?"

Fixing Bugs in a Tesla:

I'm nothing off a Tesla owner. But just curious (and maybe something to perform?): Do they have bug fixes and security updates!

I have this same issue with my Tesla and iPhone 17 Pro. I can tell you that I also have a Rivian and the same problem was affecting that vehicle as well. It’s because of the new Apple Bluetooth chip. It doesn’t behave the same way the old ones did.

Rivian this week just issued a fix for it. The cause seems to be the way the Bluetooth connection behaves when the phone is asleep. My Rivian phone key works perfectly fine now.

Based on this I do not expect Apple to do anything about this, it’s up to Tesla to issue a software fix and so far despite it being a know issue they haven’t bothered to.

Operating the vehicle isn’t the problem. That all still works. The issue is the app/car will “forget” that your phone is the key and ask you to re-pair it via Bluetooth which renders your app controls non functional until you physically get near the car again and pair it. Also, for some reason it only does this at home. If I am out someplace it’s fine.

Surely Tesla provides some kind of proximity key you can use to enter and start your car...

One more reason I would never even consider owning one.
