Sim Locked By Which Network Provider

Open Settings > General > About - scan down and it should tell you who its locked to.

Did you purchase a used iPhone, which is Carrier Locked? Please note that ONLY the carrier a phone is locked to can remove a lock. And if you're not their customer, they have little obligation to remove the lock or they may require you pay off any remaining balance owed on the phone's contract.

Are you saying that you don't know who your carrier is....(you pay them every month for service)......or, are you saying that you bought a used phone and the phone is carrier locked?

If you bought a used phone, do you have an option to return the phone for a refund?

Can your son return the phone for refund? You may not be able to get the phone unlocked by the carrier, which means it may not be able to be used for the most basic of cellphone functions, which is to make and receive phone calls.

No, they can't. How would Apple know which of hundreds of possible carriers a phone might be connected with? At the present time, the phone is not connected to a carrier at all, so tracking is not possible.

Remember......Apple is not a carrier. They make the hardware, but they have nothing to do with which carrier a user might choose. Carrier choice is up to the user.

I'm sorry, but if you can't return the phone for a refund, you and your son have unfortunately learned a hard lesson about the dangers of buying a used phone.

If the seller has "disappeared", the usual reason for this is that the phone was stolen and you very likely are in possession of stolen merchandise. Best to turn the phone over to the police or drop the phone off at the recycle center.

Apple may be able to tell you. Call them and ask.

Other than that, you will have to ask whoever you got it from.
