While the SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD does NOT show in the Finder, the EXTERNAL 500GB EXT HD does. And Time Machine sees both (the EXTERNAL 500GB EXT HD is a child of the SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD if that means anything). While there is no "Model" number, there are two other numbers: S/N 2GHK4YEH AND P/N 9SP2A2-500. Both are rotational HD, neither is SSD. Also, I have no access to another enclosure. While I am an ex-electronics tech, I still need to pinch pennies until Lincoln squawks.
I was told the original content was deleted. So, following is the [edited] content:
Does anyone know about a Seagate 500GB external hard drive? I have two Seagate 500GB hard drives: the "EXTERNAL 500GB EXT HD" and the "SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD." The SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD suddenly disappeared from the Finder. Its pilot light is lit and the connections are the same, and I have tried to physically ensure the connections are all satisfactory. I don't believe the USB cable is bad. But even a system restart does not re-establish communication with the SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD. The EXTERNAL 500GB EXT HD works very well. I have tried to find an online troubleshooting app for Seagate external hard drives but have not found one. While operable, the SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD was collecting backups and I trashed the old ones. I think that was the last thing I did with the SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD before it disappeared. Time Machine kept telling me that the backups failed to save. And Time Machine can no longer see the subject SEAGATE 500GB EXT HD, just the EXTERNAL 500GB EXT HD. Thank you.
A PS. A message appeared on the finder: "Disk Not Ejected Properly Eject 'External 500GHD-B' before disconnecting or turning it off." This may be irrelevant to the situation, but I thought it might help anyone who is knowledgeable about Seagate hard drives.
Thank you, Limnos
