Photos were backed up, but now are missing from iCloud.
I even made sure they stayed there, i deleted the photos on my iPad and then checked on iCloud if they were still there and they were!! So it was fine, until today. A lot of my photos are gone and they're not in the deleted folder or anywhere. It's so annoying... Is it because my payment was cancelled? If i buy iCloud storage again, will it fix the problem??

To further follow up on Yer_Man post, you can turn off iCloud Photos on your device and photos will no longer be synced where you could delete them from your iPad and they would not be deleted from iCloud. Photos will remain in iCloud if there is another device that is using the syncing service, but if you have no devices that are syncing the photos, then they will only remain there for only 30 days. It certainly is not a backup service.
Photos and videos stored in iCloud are deleted 30 days after you stop using the service. If you change your mind before then, you can select Recover iCloud Photos.

The iCloud Photo Library is a syncing service, not a back up. So when you deleted your images from your iPad you told iCloud to do the same, unless you logged out of it on your iPad. Did you?
If we're playing questions then how come there rest of your images are not there bearing in my way I said:

Because if it was a back up they'd still be there, no?
I backed them up. I tested if they were just syncing or backing up by deleting my photos and checking the icloud if they were still there.
They were. Even after days, I kept checking, logged out and in. Still there despite being deleted on my ipad.
But now they're gone.
BUT there are still a few photos that I had backed up which are not on my device. So that means they're not synced. They were from the backup photos.
So where are the rest?? It would be really nice to have them.. this is unexpected and inconvenient since in paying for storage n stuff...
I renewed my subscription, still nothing
Only a few backed up photos are in my icloud which are not in my ipad.
Those few were backed up despite being deleted.
I dont know why the rest isn't, this is why I'm here. It's confusing :/
So this shows both are points.. part back up part synced. Idk what's going on...
