120hz ProMotion not working on remplacement screens (not Apple screens).

Hi everyone ! I have a question about 120 Hz (ProMotion) display replacements on iPhone Pro models:

  • Can anyone confirm whether only original Apple screens allow 120 Hz refresh rate ?
  • Is there an official statement from Apple affirming that rule ?
  • I’ve seen replacement screens whose specs claim they support 120 Hz, but after installation they only run at 60 Hz. Why does that happen ?

No one here can say for sure, but we can say that Apple doesn't recommend third-party part replacements and they are notorious for being incompatible or having other issues arise aside from refresh rate, such as Face ID or the Camera. Typically third-party parts claim to be compatible but really aren't. And if a third-party part poses a safety or privacy risk, Apple can disable it.

If you are considering a screen replacement, have it done only at Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They are the only ones with access to genuine parts that will perform with your iPhone properly. If you've already done so, Apple can and typically will deny further service due to the risks involved with a non-genuine part.

If you haven't had your screen replaced with a 3rd party non-Apple-authentic screen, DON'T DO IT? While we can't confirm whether Promotion will work or not, we do know other features likely won't work, such as Face ID and True Tone. Like Zachyy correctly advises, having ANYONE other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider replace parts on your phone will render it unserviceable by Apple in the future. You won't be able to trade it to Apple and it's resale value will be greatly, if not totally reduced to nothing.
