The Notes app is making my iPad hot and slow

I’m using an iPad mini 7, and I’ve been taking notes in the default Notes app for only two days. I’ve noticed that the device gets hot and starts slowing down when I use it.

My iPad is quite new and I’ve never had any heating issues in any other situation, even when playing games.

Could this be related to how much content I have in a single note, or something else?

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

I really like using the Notes app because it’s simple and the handwriting looks way better than in third-party apps. I’d love to keep using it if possible.

Fixing it is simple:

  1. Split big notes into smaller ones
  2. Disable search/indexing for Notes
  3. Turn off iCloud syncing while writing
  4. Close Notes periodically
  5. Update iPadOS
  6. Limit handwriting content per note

Your device is not faulty — Notes is just doing far more in the background than it appears.
