Check Magic Keyboard/Trackpad Bluetooth or USB-C connection
How do you determine if the Magic Keyboard or Track pad is conneced via Bluetooth or USB-C?
Answer: I had a problem with my Magic Keyboard not working without Bluetooth as "Reefberry" had posted. The solution posted needed more detail, at least for me.
I saw no statement that it is "wired" in System Settings>Keyboard. At the top it is hard to see the charge icon which is the only clue it is wired.
In the Bluetooth screen of System settings I found no mention of "Connected via USB"
In the row for the Magic Keyboard, it shows, "Connected", with a small charging icon with a XX%. But most noticible is that there is no "Disconnect" button in the right of the row when hovering with the cursor.
The trackpad however does show "Disconnect" because it is only connected via Bluetooth since that cable connection doesn't work. The problem is due to my USB-C expansion adapter used for the track pad. So if the Bluetooth device is "Connected" but has no "Disconnect" button when hovering, it's not via Bluetooth. The charging icon is a clue . If it is "Connected" and has a 'Disconnect" button, then it's via Bluetooth. No charging symbol (just a battery icon and XX%) is the clue for that.
Don't disconnect either device from Bluetooth without a working USB cable connection. I don't know how to reconnect the trackpad to Bluetooth without the cable and then disconnecting the cable for autoconnect to Bluetooth.
For now I'll just use the one cable connected directly to the computer port and keep the Trackpad device charged until I find a better expansion adapter
