Setting up Google temperature sensor with Apple Home

I just got a new Google thermostat, and it is set up and works great with Apple Home. It was easy to set up the thermostat in Apple Home, but I am having problems setting up the temperature sensor that came with the thermostat in Apple Home. When it is time to scan the code on the back of the sensor, it will not scan in, so I can not set it up. Can anyone help me with this? Everything else works great. Can anyone help me with this? I have contacted Google with no help; they told me to call Apple, who could not figure it out told me to contact Google.

HELP Please

You’re running into a limitation that neither Apple nor Google clearly explains:

❗ Google Nest temperature sensors do not support Apple Home / Matter — only the thermostat does.

That’s why:

  • Your thermostat added to Apple Home successfully (Nest recently added Matter support).
  • Your Nest temperature sensor will not scan, will not pair, and is invisible to Apple Home.
  • The QR code does nothing in the Home app — it’s not a Matter or HomeKit code.

This isn’t a problem with your phone, your Home app, or the sensor.

The sensor cannot be added to Home, because:

✔ Nest thermostats support Matter

✘ Nest temperature sensors do not support Matter or HomeKit

At the moment (2025), Google only updated the thermostat firmware to support Matter — not the accessories that link to it over Thread/BLE.
