Word for iPad cannot save and open docx files

Hello everyone,

In Word for iPad on iPad Air, I am unable to open Word documents. Even if I am working and creating a new document and want to save it in Files in iCloud, I am unable to do so. All that remains is an unopenable icon with an 'A' and the words 'zero kb'.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Please help.
