Hey folks. Just got off phone call with apple support. Since I upgraded to OS 26.1 on both iPhone and iWatch, when I read a text on my iphone it would not clear off my apple watch. Through many trouble shooting, what resolved my problem was disconnecting from my Apple account on my iPhone and reconnecting. When I did this all was fixed. Hope this helps others.

SMS texts sometimes need to be removed manually, or by resetting the watch. Imessages will sync removal when removed from the iphone, in my experience.
I just tested it though and SMS were removed by deleting them on my iphone.
I logged out of iCloud on my iPhone and then logged back in. Didn’t fix my syncing issues between Apple Watch and iPhone. I think it’s because watchOS 26 is a buggy mess. I wish I could downgrade back to watchOS 11. I know watchOS 26.2 is coming out soon, but I’ve heard the RC doesn’t fix this issue.
That is the issue
i I had 0 unread messages on my phone and 50 something unread on the watch
i went through all the procedure of mirror and unpairing the watch.
I see some on internet with same issue and wanted to post the fix that worked for me.

Not a buggy mess unless you read Reddit which is for the permanently dissatisfied. 26.2 may not fix a bug that does not exist.
