Can Apple track a stolen HomePod mini's serial number during setup?

Can Apple track the serial number of a missing/stolen HomePod Mini (new, not set up) and track when someone tries to set up the device with their Apple ID?

I recently ordered a HomePod Mini as a Christmas gift. FedEx delivered it yesterday (there’s photo evidence to prove that it was delivered to my building’s unsecured package locker). However, the package is mysteriously nowhere to be found. I suspect a package thief. I know the $99 may not seem worth it, but it’s the principle of the thing. People who steal packages during the gifting season are especially uncool imo.
