iPhone accessibility triple-click shortcut unreliable

I often use Apple’s built-in white noise at night because I’m a light sleeper, and I trigger it through a shortcut assigned to the triple-click action on the iPhone side button. This lets me start white noise in my AirPods without unlocking the phone in the dark, which is really convenient.

The problem is that this shortcut is unreliable. About 1 out of 3 times, especially at night or after the phone has been idle for several hours, the triple-click simply does nothing. No white noise starts, no feedback is given, and the only way to make it work is to unlock the phone with Face ID. After unlocking, the exact same triple-click works immediately as expected.

It’s been happening consistently for weeks. AirPods are connected, and the shortcut itself is very simple, so it feels like an issue with how the triple-click action is handled.

This makes the feature quite frustrating to use during the night, especially when relying on it to fall back asleep.

Is this a bug or is there's a workaround?

The triple-click shortcut becomes unreliable at night because iOS 26.1 sometimes suspends locked-screen shortcut execution after long idle periods. The fix is to re-enable running when locked, reset the triple-click configuration, turn off power-saving features, enable Background Sounds in settings, use Run Immediately, and ensure AirPods are active before sleep. If still unreliable, switch to Back Tap as a temporary fix — it works consistently. Apple is aware of this bug and will fix it in iOS 26.2.
