Buzzing when trying to take or make a phone call - but only when held up to ear

When I take or make a call on my iPhone 16 there is a super weird buzzing noise that comes from the speaker... and the person on the other end can't hear me. I can hear them even with the buzzing

The weird part? If I put them on speaker phone? Everything is totally fine. They can hear me and I can hear them

Everything else works just fine. Watching a video? No buzzing. Apple CarPlay when driving? No buzzing. So the speakers work fine except when I'm trying to talk on the phone holding it against my ear

IOS is up to date. I've restarted plenty of times. I cleaned the speakers yesterday with compressed air etc... all the basic stuff

Googled it and couldn't find this situation anywhere

The only thing I haven't done is reset the network settings

Thoughts?

Open Settings > Apps > Phone - is Haptics turned on? If yes, turn it off and see if that changes the behavior.

By chance do you have any Bluetooth devices connected to your iPhone, which are on when you make or receive phone calls?

Finally, sometimes a simple Forced Restart (different procedure from a restart) can fix odd issues --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
