Cannot cancel subscription after Apple ID region change

I have changed my region from Canada to US now I cannot cancel a subscription to The Athletic made through Apple. The subscription does not appear on my Apple account but it is billed every month. NY Times directs me to Apple.

View hidden subs at apps.apple.com/account/billing

✔ Switch region back to Canada → cancel → return to U.S.

✔ Or ask Apple Support to cancel a “cross-region hidden subscription”

You cannot fix this through NY Times or The Athletic — they do NOT control the billing token once purchased via Apple.
