Apple Intelligence highlight to search always responds 'Google is unavailable'.

I've been seeing haphazard reports on message boards with this exact problem, but no solution. Trying to use Apple Intelligence highlight to search option, this shows up. It's been lasting for weeks, it's my first Apple device so I don't have anything to compare it to and it's been happening on IOS 26.0.1 and on 26.1. My phone was also factory reset once and I tried with two different iCloud accounts set up for two different regions. What gives, what am I doing wrong? The Temu search works fine. I'm also logged into ChatGPT.

Fixes that work:

  1. Disable/enable Google as a search provider
  2. Sign out/in of iCloud
  3. Change region temporarily
  4. Reset All Settings
  5. Wait for Apple to refresh your entitlements server-side

Temu working proves your AI search system is active — only Google’s provider token is missing.
