Folders on mac HD

I used to keep all my files in Folders in my Mac HD now I can only save files to the desktop and I can not move them to the HD or create a folder on my HD. I think this occurred after I updated my system to 12.7 . I do not like my files on my desktop I do not find it safe for people to see all my folders when they walk in the room. I tried to unlock my HD in info tool. (where my user does not appear so there is no read write info on it) I can not add my "administrator" user the only user on the cpu to the menu because I do not have permissions (which is weird) I have had nothing but problems with my data management since updating. I can create folders in other places like applications it asks me for my password every-time which is annoying if your moving 3k items from your desktop. there is no "home" folder. I wouldn't use it anyway. When I updated my OS my computer completely bombed erased my entire cpu -and I had to reload everything from scratch drag and drop. Time machine wouldn't recognize the new OS. Nothing worked after being on the phone with apple for four weeks. I just trying to get things where they were... on the HD - i don't want my files in documents or pictures, home folder or anywhere else - I want to click HD and see my folders bar non. Work folder 2020 Work folder 2021 ect...

If you mean the "root" /Macintosh HD (or whatever you have named it), then that has been reserved for the system for many recent macOS versions and is not writable for users.

You can write to your Home folder at /Users/your_name. YMMV but you could make a folder to the Desktop and save your files there so others can not see its contents. Or save the files in /Users/your_name/Documents maybe in some subfolder(s) and drag that to the Dock for quick access etc.
