Apple Music for Windows crashes when adding ALAC files

I'm trying to upload music files to Apple Music using my Windows PC. I have ripped the music from CD using Windows Media Player to ALAC format.

Using the Apple Music app for Windows I go to the three-dot menu Library > Add Folder to Library and select the Music folder containing all my files organized by artist and album in sub folders. I have also tried adding just one artist and just one album. In each case Apple Music attempts to process the upload and then displays an error and crashes.

Regardless of the folder I pick or even an individual music file, the "Activity" window showing the process displays over 300 files it's processing.

Update: Apple Music is now crashing immediately after starting up. Restarting the computer and uninstalling the app and reinstalling it doesn't change the behavior.
