44.1 khz file importing at wrong sample rate

I have a file that is 44.1k khz but it keeps importing into GarageBand at 22,045 kHz and playing back the file at half speed. I can't figure out why this is happening or how to fix it. I have restarted GarageBand and it still is happening. Please help!
