Apple asking for me to divulge my Comcast email password

11/11/25 I just tried to install several applications from the Apple App Store. One of them was travel app Fyno. In each case, the Apple App Store wanted to align to my email account before installing, but then asked me to type in my email account’s password before installing.

This is the first time that I’ve ever had an app or the Apple App Store ask me type in my email password and I’m not comfortable with that. Should I be?

Is this a change within the App Store for downloads? Why would my password be asked for? If verification is needed, typically they send me an email that I respond to as verification of the correct email. But sharing my email password with a program just doesn’t seem safe to me.

The Fyno app is apparently directly accessing your mail server, which means you will need to provide your email server password, and which can usually be an app-specific password.

If you are not comfortable with that email server access, don’t use the app.

For Gmail: https://fyno.io/docs/email-gmail

How (if) Comcast does an app-specific password, I do not know.
