IPad Mini 7 won’t backup copy / software update eith internet shared connection shared from iPhone 11/iPad Pro 5th gen
Hi!
My devices: iPhone 11 (iOS 26.1), iPad Pro 5th gen (iOS 26.1) and iPad Mini 7 (iOS 26). Oh and I also have a Macbook Air M1 (Mac OS 15.5).
I have a problem with my iPad mini not being able to make a backup copy or a software update with Wifi-internet connection shared from my iPhone or iPad Pro.
I dont’t have a separate Wifi at home (I mean a Wifi from a modem). My iPhone obviously has a telephone subscription with internet and my iPad Pro also has a data plan with internet. My iPad Mini does not have a data plan, I use the internet by sharing the internet from either my iPhone or my iPad Pro and it works great.
Both oh my other devices (iPhone and iPad Pro) will create a backup copy and update the software just fine by using the internet connection shared from the other device (iPhone and iPad Pro). However, when I try to create a backup copy /make a software update on my iPad Mini by sharing my internet from my iPhone/iPad Pro I am not able to do it due to poor internet connection.
When I take my iPad Mini to backup copy/software update to a place with a proper Wifi (Wifi by a modem I mean) it does everything without a problem. The problem with not being able to back up copy/software update with the internet shared from my iPhone/iPad Pro has been the same since I got my Ipad Mini.
I know I can obviously just go to a place with proper Wifi, but I was wondering if you internet wizards could explain to me if there is something I could do that could make this work with the internet connections I have on my iPhone and iPad Pro? It would make my life a lot easier to just be able to backup copy/software update at home. Or is it just that it doesn’t work due to iPad Mini 7 being a new device and iPhone 11 and iPad Pro 5th gen being older devices?
Currently not being able to buy a newer iPhone or iPad Pro, will get a new iPhone when the software updates won’t apply to iPhone 11 anymore, BUT if you think it would help to get a new device, would also appreciate if someone could tell me it would be the solution.
I have done the basics; restart devices, update software, retried the internet connections.
As I’m not a tech person or a wizard of internet connection problems I thought I would ask the community. All help much appreciated. 😊
