New M4 Macbook Air. How do I get rid of the black notch at the top middle of the screen?
It shows on any screen be it Home Screen, browser, mail, etc.
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 26.1

You don't. It's a physical cutout in the LCD where the camera is.

That's probably why the native panel resolution is 2560x1664 pixels – not the more usual 2560x1600 of earlier Mac notebooks that had Retina displays, but not a "notch". I suspect the notch area is a 24-pixel high strip tacked onto the top of a 2560x1600 (aspect ratio: 16:10) display, so you get a bit more screen area, instead of a bit less.
There is a setting that lets you display things below the notch area. That keeps the notch from interfering with stuff at the top center of the screen, and might also make it less noticeable.
Really?! It is quite annoying to me.
Yes, really.
Well, Thank you, KiltedTim, for the information. I can stop looking for a work-around. LOL!
