Homepod gen 2 stereo pairing no longer works after Homepod 26.1 update

As the title suggests after I upgraded to the new software yesterday my Homepods can no longer stereo pair despite me selecting the pairing option. When I go to the sound option on my mac two homepods appear instead of one and when I click on either one the other one disappears. Also in my home app one of the homepods is always configuring and no amount of restarts and resets fixes this issue.
