App screen layout ios 26

Both my wife and I are noticing an irritating issue with app screen layout/sizing since updating to iOS26. I have an iPad Air 5, my wife the latest mini.

the issue is happening on multiple apps, although for me the most common one is the Facebook app.

When you open certain windows within an app, eg playing a video in FB, then certain elements of the window extend right up to the top of the screen putting controls over the top of things like the time and date, top left, or WiFi/battery, top right. The end result being selecting this controls doesn’t work reliably resulting in multiple presses to get it to work. Or they don’t work at all and you have to close the app and reopen.

not sure if this is an iOS display issue or just an iOS change apps haven’t caught up with.

Any ideas/suggestions? A factory reset and restoring from backup has t made any difference on my Air.

Facebook is a notoriously poor App. Almost continuous App updates frequently introduce more issues than they resolve. That said, you have a problem - for which there may be a workaround that might ameliorate the immediate problem...

Most issues of screen elements overlapping controls are, in part, due to the new Liquid Glass UI. There are some settings that can improve visibility.

If you haven't already done so, update your iPad to iPadOS 26.1 - at the time of writing, this being the most recent update.

Having updated your iPad, these are the principal settings that heavily influence the effects of Liquid Glass:

Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass - select Clear or Tinted*

Settings > Accessibility > [Vision] Display & Text Size >

  • Reduce Transparency - select On or Off
  • Increase Contrast - select On or Off

* NB: This setting can only be changed while the Reduce Transparency is set to Off.

As starting point, I suggest that you choose these initial settings:

  • Liquid Glass - Clear
  • Reduce Transparency - On
  • Increase Contrast - Off

When configured as described, the majority of overlapping screen elements should be suppressed which may help alleviate your current difficulties. You might then experiment changing the combination of settings to best meet your preferred appearance.

There is one further setting that can eliminate the glass "lensing" effects and icon animation:

Settings > Accessibility > [Vision] Motion > Reduce Motion - set to ON

Do let us know if any of the above helps with the problem. Otherwise, for issues with the Facebook App, you'll need to reach out to Facebook using its online resources.

Unfortunately 26.1 and those changes don’t seem to have made a difference. And it is variable and across multiple apps, even though FB is an order of magnitude worse.

It is a positioning thing. When it occurs the back arrow or “x” to close a window is position bang on top of the time and date display. Perfectly visible but just unresponsive.

would have put it down as an issue with my Air but my wife is seeing exactly the same on her mini.
