apple watch apple music control problems

I've been having this issue for a number of years now where I ask siri via watch to play a song next, as in after the current song playing is done. "hey siri, play the macarena next" and siri responds perfectly "ok, the macarena by los del rio is next" and then ... nothing plays. About a month ago, I tried signing out of my apple account, turning sync off, and signing back in and turning sync back on. It worked for all of about 5 minutes, before returning to broken.

I do not have this problem asking siri via phone, but generally I use this when I am driving and Australian law forbids handling phones whilst driving.
