Apple Music on Mac mini, to Home Pod skipping and volume issue

Since updating my Mac and Home Pod to the most recent releases (Tahoe 26.1 and 26.1 (23J582)) my music skips and volume is bouncing around. Home Pod works fine streaming from iPhone so far. Music app seems really poor on Mac in general, but this update has made the performance even worse.

This looks to be a HomePod issue, when I play music from the Mac Mini speaker no skipping, and no weird volume issues. Same when playing to a Beats Pill, no issues whatsoever. I'm just thinking the HomePods are not a very good product, mothballed them for a year, beginning to remember why.
