AirPlay Atmos content from AppleTV to Mac Mini

I have a surround sound system connected to my Mac mini through a thunderbolt audio interface, which I am able to use for Atmos content through Apple Music and Apple TV+ on my Mac.

I would like to use my Apple TV to watch and listen to Atmos content with my Mac set up as an AirPlay receiver. Both devices are currently on the most recent respective software updates.

As soon as I connect my Apple TV to the Mac via AirPlay, the Atmos content swaps to stereo and the Mac only ever recieves a stereo signal.

I was under the assumption that AirPlay 2 supported Atmos and spatial audio for Apple devices.

I have also changed my Atmos setting in Music to always be on Atmos with no avail.
