I am having trouble updating Microsoft Word and Powerpoint apps on my MacBook Air. I receive an "update err"

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 26.0
The App Store versions and those installed directly from MS update differently. In addition, the App Store versions require a MS365 subscription to be fully functional. Standalone licenses are not valid for the App Store versions.
I reinstalled these 2 apps from the App Store and the update worked fine.
