Buying a MacBook in China

If I buy a MacBook in China and bring it home, will i have restrictions.

I had one phone from China and absolutely everything was blocked on it. You could only download Chinese app, you can't use Google, etc. (I changed the region, but the restrictions remained). Will it be the same with the MacBook?

There is a difference between hardware purchased somewhere and software that accessible to you. It sounds like your iPhone experience was with software availability if your Apple Account country was set to China. We see complaints about this from people in all countries because in most places the software is only available from that country's store. So if your account is set to China then of course you will be limited to what the store there has. Note that switching to a different country's store has a series of requirements that are not easily met unless you actually live in that country. The support article Change your Apple Account country or region - Apple Support describes how to change your country setting on everything using your Apple Account, and the requirements and results of doing this.

As for hardware restrictions, I don't know about those. I know that for computers I have not heard of any issues except the standard ones such as a keyboard having that country's language layout. For general warranty and support issues you should purchase your computer in the country where you will be residing.

Apple has not sold the MacBook for many years, at least in the US, which may be the reason your question does not appear to have elicited much interest.

Your choices today are MacBook Pro or MacBook Air and you would be much better off asking Apple, or posting your question in one of the following two Apple Support Communities.

  • To research your questions and to purchase the Mac of your choice, start with Apple's home page, here: Apple
  • To post your question in a more active subject area, start with the page appropriate to the Mac model you are considering:
